Port Lincoln Golf Report
With a touch of extra run creeping into the fairways, players flocked to the Port Lincoln Golf Club this week with the competitions sponsored by Stannard Marine. Libby Dolphin and Helen George found themselves tied at the end of Saturday’s Stableford Competition each with 38 points to their name, a whopping nine shots clear of the rest of the field. In the end though it was Libby Dolphin who would rise to the top through the countback system.
The men took part in the second round of Club Championship this past Saturday where Kye Barber made his claim to A Grade after a Nett score of 69. Close behind was Simon Bell after he played to handicap to end with a score of 72. Kent Barber was able to secure the Nett victory in B Grade with his score of 70 enough to push him past Warren Rosman and his score of 72. A countback was required in C Grade after both Leon Newman and David Krollig finished with Nett scores of 72 with Leon just securing the win.
Thursday saw the women take part in their second round for the Club Championship with Cynthia Thompson continuing her strong form and putting together a Nett score of 71. Kaye Jaensch found herself in second place with her score of 74 while Jo Higgins and Carolyn Cocks were a further shot behind.
Wednesday’s Stableford competition was played over three grades where A Grade found it’s victor in Michael Freeman and his score of 34 just one shot clear of Scott Lombe and Trevor Durdin. Trent Bradford had a day out in B Grade, his score of 42 too much for his nearest rival in Kym Hosking who still entered a respectable score of 37. Score of the week was to be found in C Grade where Lachlan Jenkins had a day to remember. His score of 43 was a whole six shots clear of the rest of the field which was headed by Sebastian Kelling.
