Port Lincoln Golf Report

It’s Club Championship time at the Port Lincoln Golf Club; three rounds of Stroke played over consecutive Saturdays where the best Port Lincoln has to offer will be crowned. With Terry White Pharmacy sponsoring the week’s competitions, Kieren Cook went out of his way to make a statement in C Grade. His Nett score of 66 blitzed the competition where his closest competitor in John O’Donohoe was seven shots behind the pace. Can Kieren keep it up for another two weeks? Time will tell. Countbacks were both required in A and B Grade. Adam Hage pipped Josh Hausler in A Grade after both men put in Nett scores of 72. A similar story in B Grade where Murray Cordell snuck past Geoff Nottle with both men scoring Nett 73.

The women took part in Stableford competition on Saturday where Josie Bacchus stole the show with her score of 35. Elaine Parker was close behind with her score of 33 while Libby Dolphin was a further three shots behind.

Stroke was played on Thursday where twenty women took part in the competition. Cynthia Thompson claimed Nett honours with her score of 68. Elaine Pierik was hot on her tail with her score of 70.

Wednesday’s Stableford competition was played over three grades where Trevor Durdin took A Grade by the horns, coming into the clubhouse with a solid 39 points to his name. Aidan Sheehy claimed second place with his score of 37. B Grade saw Phil Lessue stand atop with his score of 35, two ahead of David Bellchambers. Lindsay Gordon was able to secure a one-shot win in C Grade over Garry Downey with the two of them scoring 37 and 36 respectively.

Monday’s Seniors competition saw Ally Russell stand atop a small field with her score of 41 Stableford points simply too much for Michael Hegarty’s score of 37.

A very similar outcome in Sunday’s Stableford competition where David Bellchambers was simply too much for the rest of the field. His score of 41 was six shots clear of his nearest rival in Cynthia Thompson.
