Port Lincoln Golf Report

With conditions feeling only partially like Winter, players were treated to an abundance of sunshine and gentle conditions (at least most of the time!). With Quinns Transport giving their support to the week’s competitions, sixty-six men took part in a Stroke competition on the Saturday. Daryl Evans asserted his place at the top in A Grade after submitting a Nett score of 70. Shaun Todd tried his utmost but came up second best with his Nett score of 72. In the B Grade, Trent Bradford took honours with a Nett score of 72, just one ahead of Chris McGown and Warren Rosman. Andy Smith had the best Nett score of the day after punching in a round of 69, while Chris Cottrell may have beaten him off the stick, on the Nett side of things he had to settle with 71.

Ten women played under Stableford rules on Saturday with Kay Freeth taking out the day with 34 points to her name. Reeta Devi came in second with her score of 32 while Lyn Hosking was another shot off the pace.

Stableford was again played on Thursday where a countback was required to find a winner after both Adie Fraser and Libby Dolphin had 36 points. In the end, the chocolates were rewarded to Adie once all was said and done.

With nearly the same number of players as Saturday, sixty-five men took part in Stableford competition on Wednesday where Bill Bascomb flexed his stuff in A Grade to submit a score of 39 points, just one shot ahead of Ben Abley. Gary Curtis wound back the clock in order to take out B Grade, securing the win with 38 points to his name. Second place belonged to Graeme Dyke with his score of 36. Grant Woods found himself with clean air behind him after walking in with 39 pints to his name, five clear of his nearest rival in Peter Watherston.

Sunday’s Mixed Stableford competition saw Danny Sharp pull out the win with his score of 37 while Mitchell Garrett secured second with his score of 33.
