Port Lincoln Golf Report
Players experienced all manner of conditions out at the Port Lincoln Golf Course this week with the scores reflecting as such. We thank Port Lincoln Hotel for their sponsorship throughout the week of competitions.
Thursday’s Stroke competition saw a small field of women take on the course after a previous deluge made the task incredibly challenging. Adie Fraser was able to top score with her Nett score of 79 with a wall of players giving chase behind her. Two shots off the pace were Jo Higgins, Elaine Pierik, Heather Darley and Cynthia Thompson while Kaye Jaensch was a further shot behind. With such a small field taking to the course, it is quite astounding that three shots was all that separated more than fifty percent of the players.
Seventy-two men took part in Stableford competition on Saturday where Trevor Durdin took out A Grade with a score of 37, Trevor was able to edge past Haydn Myers by a single shot. Marcus Dennis comfortably took out B Grade with his score of 38, five shots clear of his nearest rival in Andrew Puglisi. Kieran Cook claimed C Grade after hitting a clean 38 points while Wayne Smith came in second with his score of 34.
A countback was required in the ladies Stableford Competition with Libby Dolphin and Kaye Jaensch submitting scores of 35 with Libby just sneaking in the win. Cynthia Thompson did her utmost to be a part of the countback but fell just one shot short.
A small field forced Wednesday’s mens Stableford competition to be played under a single grade, with Garry Downey able to scramble his way to the top with his score of 34. David Bellchambers snuck into second with his score of 33 while Daniel Brown was the only other player to score more than thirty points with his 32 points.
The scores of the week were found on Sunday and was settled via countback with Jordy Parker battling past Heather Darley as both players bettered their respective handicaps by five shots to lodge scores of 41.
