Port Lincoln Golf Report
Those who played at the Port Lincoln Golf Course this week were spared the chaotic conditions which have plagued the area as of late, resulting in larger field numbers as players came out in droves. As always, we thank this week’s sponsor, Port Lincoln Mechanical, for their continued support.
Fifteen women took part in Stableford Competition on Saturday with a countback required to find a winner. With 37 points apiece, Heather Darley was just able to sneak past Cynthia Thompson to etch her name atop the leaderboard with Helen George and Libby Dolphin a further three shots behind.
The men took part in Stroke Competition on Saturday and it was clear in the A Grade that when Shaun Thomas isn’t teaching the juniors he is still dishing out lessons. His Nett score of 74 was able to best Simon Bell by a single shot in order to secure the day. A single shot was all that separated first and second in B Grade was well with David Bellchambers entering a Nett score of 72, just ahead of Graham Tiller. Dylan Puckridge was able to put C Grade to the sword, his Nett score of 72 had him a whole four shots clear of his nearest competitor in Andy Smith.
Thursday’s Stableford competition was conquered by Debra Tromp and her score of 34 points. Kaye Jaensch secured second with her score of 33 with Elaine Pierik just behind with her score of 32.
With seventy-three players coming out on Wednesday, the men were able to be separated into three grades again. Dan Townsend made the most of it, making it to the top of A Grade with his score of 37. Mark Butt battled valiantly and came in second with his round of 36. In B Grade, Geoff Nottle was able to claim top spot after putting together a score of 37, Juri Berzins close behind with his score of 35. Score of the day was to be found in C Grade where Scott Ambrose was able to put together a mighty score of 39, four shots clear of David Bellchambers.
