Port Lincoln Golf Report

Understandably, numbers were down over the week as rain hammered the Port Lincoln Golf Course causing soggy terrain and wreaking havoc on player’s scores. Regardless, a few select players were able to thrive in the week’s competitions, sponsored by the Sarin Group.

Stroke Competition greeted the players on Saturday with Boyd McCurry unleashing a four under par round of 68 to blow away the competition. His score was also able to garner second place in the Nett part of the competition after his score of 69, only bested by Daniel Townsend and his Nett score of 67. In the B Grade, Rick Kolega took honours off the stick with his round of 89. A countback was required to find a victor in the Nett category with Juri Berzins just edging past Chris Cottrell with both men having scores of 74. Grant Heidenreich topped C Grade with his round of 95, a score which also saw him top the Nett category after his handicap resulted in him having a score of 75. It just scraped by as Colin Clark was right on his heels, just a solitary shot behind.

Libby Dolphin was crowned the victor in the Women’s Stroke Competition after submitting a Nett score of 73. It was a whopping five shots clear of Elaine Pierik who was a further two shots clear of Heather Darley.

Thursday saw the Women take part in the Club Foursome Championships played over a rare twenty seven hole event, competed over two divisions. The team of Reeta Devi and Jennifer McDonald topped Division One, after having shot a team score of 140. Behind them, Jo Higgins and Cynthia Thompson combined for a team score of 149. In Division Two, Jill Arcus and Kaye Freeth were able to put together a respectable 104, just ahead of Michelle Smith and Deb Tromp with their 110.

Due to the small field on Wednesday, all players competed in the same grade which was taken out by Haydn Myers who was able to play to handicap which resulted in a score of 36. Just behind him was Grant Heidenreich with a score of 35 while Daryl Evans, Geoff Nottle and Grant Woods all put together scores of 33.

Sunday’s Mixed Stableford Competition was claimed by Mitchell Wilbe, putting together a handy score of 39. Jarrod Childs secured second place with his score of 37.
