Port Lincoln Golf Report
Big scores are slowly but surely getting harder to come by at the Port Lincoln Golf Club. The recent rain has caused the rough to become more dangerous and recovery shots are going to become more important as winter conditions start to creep in. As always, we thank our sponsors for their contribution to the club and this week we give our gratitude to Intersport.
Saturday’s Stableford competition saw the score of the day to be found in C Grade with Nathan Miller standing tall. His score of 39 was a whole three shots clear of the rest of the grade with only Shaun Carpenter providing a challenge with his score of 36. Kym Hosking found himself the victor of A Grade with his score of 38 just enough to get over the line with Norm Marks close behind with his 37. Jarrod Childs registered 37 points to take out B Grade with Jason Verhees score of 34 gifting him second place.
The women found Saturday's conditions quite difficult with Cynthia Thompson able to take out the win with her score of 32 points. Kay Freeth and Libby Dolphin were only a single shot behind.
Thursday saw the women taking part in Par competition. Gail Watherston was the cream of the crop with her score of 1. Val Sharrad played to her handicap to register a score of 0 while Rhondda Mayfield another shot behind.
Wednesday’s Stableford competition saw Boyd McCurry claim A Grade after shooting 70 off the stick to score 38 points. Tate Secker battled on for his score of 37. A countback was required to find the winner of B Grade with Michael Schoeman just edging past Daryl Scharfe with both men scoring 40 points. David Reid took out C Grade with his score of 39. William Ford found himself runner up after his score of 35.
Sunday required another countback in order to decide a victor, this time seeing Nathan Miller’s score of 35 just enough to get past Steven Forstner. Boyd McCurry and Jason Verhees were only another shot off the pace.
