Port Lincoln Golf Report
With the golf course exploding into life with the recent rain, player scores are starting to resemble the change of seasons with close competitions across almost every competition and grade. With the Double Corner Store sponsoring the week, the highlight of the week was to be found in Thursday’s Stroke competition for the Monthly Medal. Kay Freeth was able to claw her way to the top of the leaderboard with a Nett score of 72. Right behind her was a wall of players as Helen George, Elaine Pierik and Lorraine McDonald who were all just one shot off forcing a countback.
Saturday’s Stableford Competition saw sixty men take to the field to battle it out over three grades. Haydn Myers was able to find the win in A Grade after putting together a score of 37. He had Tom George hot on his heels with his score of 36. In the B Grade Chris McGown was able to just keep ahead of Andrew Tiller with scores of 38 and 37 respectively. Leon Newman was able to gain a respectful lead in C Grade, his score of 34 a whopping four shots clear of Brad Giles.
The women also participated in Stableford competition on Saturday with Jennifer McDonald putting on a performance and entering the clubroom with 36 points to her name. Heather Darley claimed the runner up position with her 34, one shot clear of Kay Freeth.
Wednesday saw ripper scores take out all grades as the men competed in Stableford competition. Tyson Dodd reached the top of A Grade with his solid score of 39 points, one clear of Taylor Ford. In the B Grade, Tom Dawson put together a remarkable score of 39 points. Phil Lessue battled strongly in order to secure second with his score of 36. Score of the day was to be found in C Grade as Scott Ambrose shot four better than his handicap to put together 40 points. While 39 points was good enough in every other grade but in C Grade it was only able to help David Graetz take second place.
Sunday’s Mixed Stableford saw a field of twenty-seven take to the course. Jennifer McDonald put together 40 points to claim victory, one shot clear of both Codey Marchesi and George Smith.
