Port Lincoln Golf Report
While the Port Lincoln Open may be behind us, there was still plenty to fight for. With CPH Accounting sponsoring the week, the men took part in Stroke competition on Saturday. Tee times were modified for the day with nobody permitted to tee off before midday resulting in a slightly smaller field. Despite that the battle was fierce as Michael Freeman fought his way to the top of A Grade with a Nett score of 69. A count back was required as Gavin Cheriton just edged sneaked past Scott Lombe with each player scoring 70. In B Grade, Geoff Nottle claimed honours with his Nett score of 70, just one shot clear of Kym Clarke. Colin Clark was victorious in C Grade, his score of 74 was enough to hold Mark Rowett at bay, his score of 75 just not enough.
Ten women took part in Stableford competition on Saturday with a countback necessary to find a winner. After having shot a score of 38, Maxine Garnaut was just able to take away the win, having just edged her way past Lyn Hosking.
The ladies also took part in Stableford competition on Thursday with Josie Bacchus taking home the win. Her score of 36 was enough to get past Elaine Pierik and Carolyn Cocks who scored 35 and 34 respectively.
In Wednesday’s Stableford competition, a countback was necessary in order to find a winner in A Grade. Rob Humphries and Andrew Fraser both entered the club rooms with 39 points to their name but it was Rob who took honours. One shot was all that separated first and second in B Grade. David Bellchambers score of 36 saw him scramble past Juri Berzins. Leon Newman had no such issues in C Grade, his score of 38 gave him a four-shot advantage over his nearest opponent in Boris Kovavic.
Sunday’s Stableford Competition was taken out by George Mayhew via a countback with both him and Helen George registering scores of 35.
