Port Lincoln Golf Report
Over one hundred and thirty players descended onto the Port Lincoln Golf Club this past Saturday to battle it out in the Port Lincoln Open which was played in pristine conditions. Players travelled from all over, some whose home courses were in Tumby Bay and Cummins and as far as Blackwood and Grange. With the day being sponsored by Mitre 10, Intersport, SAPS and the Double Corner Store, it would be the locals who stood up when it mattered most.
Off the stick, Adam Hage hit a spectacular 72 after registering six birdies for the day to be victorious in A Grade. Daniel Brown could hold his head high after submitting a score of 74. Kym Hosking would claim the win in the B Grade after putting together a round of 83. Tim Pobke tried his best but had to settle for second, two shots behind. A single shot was all that separated first and second in the C Grade, but it was Brenton George who stood tall, just edging past Dale Howell.
Via the handicap system, Andrew Fraser claimed A Grade with his Nett score of 72, three shots ahead of Tom George, Shaun Thomas, Dylan Bell and Brenton Starke. In the B Grade, Graeme Parker was able to put together a Nett score of 73 to just sneak past Steven Forstner by a single shot. Mark Rowett stood tall in C Grade, putting together a Nett score of 72. Anthony Manuel was runner up with his score of 74.
The ladies competed over two divisions on Saturday with Reeta Devi taking out Division One, blitzing the competition with her 81 off the stick. Sarah Alomes battled valiantly and took home second place after her round of 90. In Division Two, Elaine Pierik took out the win after putting together a round of 102, four shots clear of her nearest rival in Maureen Van Maanan.
On Nett, Lyn Hosking’s score of 73 was enough to be victorious in Division One, three shots ahead of Helen George. In Division Two, scores were tied and Adie Fraser just snuck past Leslee Findlay with both women scoring 78.
The rest of the week’s competition was played under Stableford conditions, and we thank Bradford Construction for their sponsorship. On Thursday, Reeta Devi went on a rampage and scored 40 points and coming out on top. Elaine Pierik was able to snatch second place away from Carolyn Cocks with both women scoring 36 points.
Sixty eight men took part in Wednesday’s competition, their last warm up before the Open. Daniel Brown secured the win in A Grade with his score of 35 enough to get past Trevor Durdin and his 33. Brett Bennie was the victor in B Grade, his 38 points enough to keep Trent Bradford and his 37 points at bay. Score of the day was found in C Grade with Kylan Miller putting 39 points together. Leon Newman secured second place with his score of 36.
Sunday’s Stableford round was sponsored by Beaumont Tiles and saw Tim Pobke claim the day with his score of 35. Liz Weatherspoon gave it everything she had but had to settle for second with her score of 34.
