Port Lincoln Golf Report

Across in Augusta National, the world’s best golfers have been fighting it out for the fabled Green Jacket. Hoping to channel some of that energy, the Port Lincoln locals have done their best to tackle the ever-changing conditions and bring glory by standing atop the leaderboard. As always, these competitions cannot happen without the help from our sponsors and this week we thank Beaumont Tiles for their support.

Wednesday saw chaotic weather conditions temporarily restrict tee off times, limiting the number of players who took part in the Stableford competition. Peter Davies top scored for the day in A Grade, fighting with everything he had at his disposal to put 37 points together. Behind him, Daniel Townsend was the only other player who managed to play to their handicap, scoring 36 points. In the B Grade, Graeme Parker scored a courageous 34 points, just one ahead of Haydon Manning. C Grade saw Steven Paul put together 33 points to claim the win, two clear of his nearest rival in Mark Rowett.

Eighteen women descended on the course on Saturday, with a countback necessary to find a winner.  Reeta Devi and Libby Dolphin both came in with 35 Stableford points to their name and despite Libby scoring birdies on both the 6th and 9th hole, Reeta walked away with the chocolates.

In the men’s Stableford competition, a single point was the difference in A Grade with Clinton Scharfe just edging past Dylan Vonderwall, 36 points enough to claim the win. Jarrod Childs secured the win in B Grade having entered the clubhouse with 36 points to his name. Steven Forstner secured second with his score of 35. C Grade saw Peter Watherston just sneak past Brad Giles on a countback, both men battling away to register 32 points.

Thursday’s Stableford competition saw the women tackle challenging conditions after the deluge the previous day. Jill Arcus was able to walk away the winner via countback from Diana Laube with both women scoring 34 points.

Easter Monday saw twenty-four players playing competitively on the public holiday and apparently with the day off it brought the best scores of the week. Codey Marchesi put together a solid round to score 41 points while Andrew Fraser just missed out after scoring 40 points.

Sunday saw a small field take to the field with Ben Sellen emerging victorious with 38 points, a whole five points clear of his nearest opponent in Josh Hausler.
