Port Lincoln Golf Report
And with that, the golf season has come to an end. The Summer run has all dried up and with the wetter weather approaching, tactics will change and play styles will shift with the new conditions. There are still some stellar scores to report though, and we thank the Food Warehouse for their sponsorship towards the week’s competitions.
Both men and women had to tackle a Par competition on Saturday with the score of the day to be found in C Grade. Shaun Carpenter blitzed his way to the top of the day with a score of 6, three ahead of bunch with David Lawson, Mark Blight and Lindsay Gordan scrapping away for second. Dylan Bell claimed honours in A Grade, shooting one under the card for a score of 2. Clinton Scharfe fought valiantly for second with his score of 1. B Grade saw John Cheriton take the win with a score of -1, just one shot clear of Kym Clarke.
Reeta Devi was victorious amongst the fifteen women taking part in Saturday’s competition with a solid score of 3. A countback was required to settle second place with Debra Tromp just edging past Elaine Pierik with both women scoring 0.
Thursday’s Stableford competition saw twenty-two women take to the field with Diana Laube clambering her way to the top with 36 points. An absolute slew of women came in with 35 points to the name with Cynthia Thompson taking second via a five-way countback from Libby Dolphin, Jill Arcus, Helen George and Leslee Findlay.
Wednesday’s Stableford competition witnessed Scott Lombe take out A Grade with 41 points, the score of the day. Bill Bascomb could still hold his head high in second after having come in with 38 points. Tom Dawson was the top of B Grade with 40 points next to his name. Chris Cottrell came in behind him after hitting a very composed 36. C Grade saw Nick Tromp at the top of the table, his score of 39 enough to hold Neil Ross at bay with his score of 36.
Sunday’s Mixed Stableford saw twenty players descend onto the field with Ben Abley the king of the crop. His score of 38 saw him get past Daniel Brown’s score of 37 and Brett Davies score of 36.
