Port Lincoln Golf Report
Throughout the week, the players out on the golf course have been competing with constantly changing conditions as squalls roll in unannounced before sweltering heat bares down mere minutes later. Truly, Port Lincoln weather at its finest. We thank Cafe Del Giornos for their continued contribution to the Golf Course, sponsoring the weeks competitions.
Saturday saw the men take part in Stableford competition with Huey Rosalia relishing in the conditions, putting up a score of 41 points in A Grade to sit two shots clear of Andrew Fraser. Darryl Scharfe was able to just get the job done in B Grade with his score of 38 creeping past John Cheriton and his score of 37. A Countback was required to find a winner in C Grade with David Graetz and David Reid both seeking to be the best David on the course. It would be David Graetz who would emerge victorious after both men put together scores of 35.
The women also competed in Stableford Competition on Saturday with Cynthia Thompson just clawing her way past Jo Higgins and Kay Freeth, her score of 33 keeping her ahead of the competition by a single shot.
Cynthia Thompson would also claim a one-shot victory in the Thursday Stableford competition, again by a single point. Her score of 36 was enough to keep both Jennifer McDonald and Gail Watherston at bay.
Wednesday’s Stableford Competition saw Haydn Myers reclaim some form as he registered 38 points in A Grade. An absolute wall of players battled it out for second place with Andrew Fraser, Michael Hegarty, Codey Marchesi and Taylor Ford all putting together 34 points. Brian Henson was able to take out B Grade with his score of 38. Peter Kenny battled hard for second with his score of 36. C Grade was taken out by John Pope and his score of 35. David Reid would feel hard done by as for the second time in the week he came second via Countback.
Sunday’s Stableford Competition was won by Jason Verhees as he played to handicap in order to score 36 points. Josh Hausler just missed out with his 35 points.
