Port Lincoln Golf Report

With a mammoth one hundred and ten male and female players taking to the course on Saturday in favourable conditions, there was little time to dilly dally to ensure that play continued at a reasonable pace. With a handy birdie on the twelfth hole, Reeta Devi was just able to sneak through victorious in the women’s Stableford competition. Her score of 40 points was just enough to win on countback from a focus driven Adie Fraser.

The men took part in Stableford competition where James Blewit sourced the win in A Grade with his stellar score of 40 points. Tom George was his nearest rival with his score of 38. In the B Grade a countback was necessary to find a winner. In the end, John Cheriton just pipped Peter Fare with both men scoring 38. Score of the day was found in C Grade where Brin Smith bested his handicap by five shots to score 41. On any other day, Michael Haritos may have taken out the win with his 39 points but it was not meant to be.

Thursday and Wednesday’s Stableford competitions were sponsored by J P Cabinets whom we thank for their sponsorship. On the Thursday, Lorraine McDonald proved to strong, nailing home an impressive 41 points. Elaine Thring was second with her score of 39 while Libby Dolphin trailed them a further three shots behind.

Peter Davies calmly stood atop A Grade on Wednesday, shooting a clean score of 40. Nobody else in A Grade was able to better there handicap with Kris Bunder being the closest to doing so with 35 points. B Grade was Warren Rosman make a charge back towards A Grade with an impressive 42 points. Robert Proude is chasing him to the top division after shooting 40 points himself. Brenton George was the victor in C Grade, walking into the clubhouse with 42 points to his name. Andy Smith possibly feels hard done by as he had to settle for second with his score of 40.

Monday and Sunday both saw Stableford competitions being played with men and women competing against one another, bringing fields of seventeen and twenty two players respectively. On the Monday, Cynthia Thompson climbed her way to the top of the leaderboard with her score of 38. Brenton George was her closest combatant with his score of 34. As for Sunday, Kye Barber claimed top spot with a hard fought 41 points. Second place was hard fought out with Luke Dempsey claiming second on a countback, his score of 37 shared with both Paul Oldacre and Elaine Thring.
