Port Lincoln Golf Report
With a swift flash of rain, life has bloomed at the Port Lincoln Golf Course. The fairways are thicker, the greens run true and the scores are up there. The Club gives thanks to this weeks sponsors, the Double Corner Store and Del Giorno’s Cafe.
Saturday’s Stableford Competition saw eighty-eight men and seventeen women take to the course, fighting it out in Stableford Competition. In the A grade, playing partners found themselves atop the leaderboard with Ben taking on Ben, but only one Ben could stand at the peak. With 42 points, Ben Sellen claimed honours, a single shot clear of Ben Abley. A single shot still was all that separated first and second in B Grade, David Bellchambers’ score of 39 just sneaking past Tate Secker. C Grade found themselves in a very similar affair with Ross Palmer shooting 39 points and Lindsay Gordan finding himself runner up by one shot.
In the Women’s Stableford competition, Adie Fraser cooked the competition, he stellar score of 41 too much for the rest of the field to handle. Carolyn Cocks finished second with her score of 38 while Heather Darley settled third with 37.
Helen George topped the table in Thursday’s Stableford Competition. Her score of 41 was insurmountable with her nearest rivals in Liz Weatherspoon and Gail Watherston close behind, each having scored 38 points.
Seventy-six men took part in Wednesday’s Stableford competition with Dylan Vonderwall topping A grade with his round of 40 points. Kris Bunder settled in second with his score of 39. The B Grade was claimed by Haydon Manning, having beaten his previous best round by four shots. His 84 off the stick garnered him 42 points and the score of the day. Peter Fare was breathing down his neck with his round of 40. Brian Smith topped C Grade, his score of 40 too much to handle. David Reid took his runner up prize having scored 35.
Monday’s Stableford competition saw 42 points being enough to take honours. Rob Humphries was victorious while Sue Howard and Gail Watherston tied behind with each having shot 36.
Sunday saw thirty-two players take to the course, a wonderful number to see. A three way countback saw Josh Hausler scrounge his way to the top, his score of 40 mimicked by Cliff Taylor and Gavin Cheriton.
