Port Lincoln Golf Report
As per usual in Port Lincoln, multiple seasons were present across a single week and in some instances in a single day. For it being the last week of Summer, you couldn’t tell it for a majority of the time and it showed in smaller fields as players opted not to participate in the wet conditions. On the Saturday, despite a Stableford competition in play, the women chose not to participate and, frankly, I don’t blame them. Twenty women did take part in Thursday’s Stableford competition with K&K Cooling sponsoring the day. Kaye Jaensch worked her way to the top of the leaderboard, bettering her handicap by five shots to score a remarkable 41 points. Michelle Smith tried her best but could only secure second place with her score of 39, one shot clear of Debra Tromp.
Returning back to the chaotic conditions of Saturday, twenty six men saw the forecast and thought, ‘That sounds fine.’ With their being limited numbers, there were no grades in play as all players competed with one another. With MGA Insurance sponsoring the day, a countback was required to find the winner of the Stroke Competition. Chris Brooks was the eventual victor with his Nett score of 73. Jason Verhees needed to be one shot better to steal the win while Michael Schoeman and Shaun Carpenter were another shot back on 74. The Monthly Medal was presented to Haydn Myers who shot 78 off the stick, a terrific round given the troubling conditions.
On a bit more of a routine Wednesday, sixty eight men took part in Stableford Competition with K&K cooling sponsoring the day. Daryl Evans took the honours in A Grade with his score of 37. Dylan Vonderwall was two shots behind with his round of 35. Score of the day was to be found in the B Grade with Chris Cottrell nailing a solid 41 points. On any other day, Tony Dragun’s score of 40 would have been enough but today just wasn’t the day. In the C Grade, Leon Newman slogged his was to the top of the leaderboard with a hard fought 35 points, just one shot clear of Boris Kovavic.
Twelve players took part in Sunday's Stableford competition with Stannard Marine sponsoring the day. Adam Sullivan made his way to the top of the table, his score of 38 more than enough to take the win. Josh Hausler took second with his round of 35.
