Port Lincoln Golf Report
With the season soon coming to a close, a vast number of golfers are making their plays to gain some momentum for the upcoming months. With competitions being sponsored by K & K Cooling and Stannard Marine, huge numbers took part in each day as players took advantage of the gorgeous conditions. With a hundred players taking part on Saturday, it was Michelle Smith who stood tall in the Par competition. Her smooth score of +4 was just enough to scrape by the wind, keeping cool and calm while Cindy Carr attempted to chase her down with her score of +3.
On the men's side of the day, a countback was required in both A and B grade as both the winners and the runner ups in those divisions scored +4 in the Par Competition. In the A Grade, it was Geoffrey Chambers who clung on to victory, just keeping ahead of Tim Pobke. In the B’s, Peter Fare was just able to sneak past Tom Dawson. +4 was also the winning score in C Grade with Jeffrey Tiller able to keep three shots ahead of Brian Smith.
The second round of the Alys Chilman Trophy took part on Thursday with the women taking part in stroke competition. Rhondda Mayfield won the day with her Nett score of 70, a single shot clear of both Kay Freeth and Libby dolphin. After two days of competition, Rhondda Mayfield was declared the winner, her Nett score of 140 winning on countback to a fast finishing Libby Dolphin.
In the men's Wednesday Stableford competition, seventy seven players took to the fairway to give it their all. In the A Grade, Mitchell Garrett took honours, his score of 39 just enough to edge past Daryl Evans. One shot was all that separated Matthew De Veer and Garry Downey in B Grade, a score of 36 giving Matthew the win. C Grade saw Ian Sellen’s score of 39 just enough to get by Graeme Parker and his score of 38.
Score of the week was found in the Sunday Stableford competition. Adam Davies scored a monstrous 42 points, well clear of Chad MacGregor, Brian Jantke and Danny Sharp who all scored 38 points.
