The LIV Golf may have been happening at Grange but there was still plenty of action to be had at the Port Lincoln Golf Course. With Stannard Marine, EP Cleaning Supplies and Kemp Real Estate sponsoring the week’s competitions, Saturday’s Stableford competitors had clearly taken some inspiration from the professionals to play their best golf. Score of the Day was to be found in C Grade where Nick Tromp triumphed with a massive 46 points. His nearest rival was seven shots adrift, Jed Trenowden scoring 39. A Grade saw the ever consistent Simon Bell take the win, his 68 off the stick netting him 42 points.Adam Davies settled for second with his score of 39. Morgan McCarroll just managed to squeeze out in B Grade, his score of 42 kept him just one shot clear of Cliff Taylor.
In the women’s Saturday Stableford competition, Heather Darley saw herself atop the leaderboard with a well earned 38. Kaye Jaensch was close behind with her score of 37.
Thursday saw the ladies take part in the first round of the Alys Chilman Trophy with 19 women playing the Stroke Competition. Libby Dolphin has the lead at the end of the first round, her net score of 69 giving her a one-shot advantage over Rhondda Mayfield. Liz Weatherspoon, Josie Bacchus, Gail Watherston and Liz Trigg are all only a few shots off the pace.
Sixty-five men took part in Wednesday’s Stableford competition with Shaun Todd claiming victory in A Grade with the score of the day. His 40 points was 3 shots ahead of his nearest competitor in Michael Hegarty. There was a four-way countback in B Grade, Garry Downey just edging past Brian Henson, Phil Lessue and David Sargent with all of them scoring 38 points.
A countback was also required in C Grade as both Wayne Smith and Joe Sheehy scored 36 points, the former just inching past the latter.
Sunday saw yet another countback take place as three players scored 38 points. At the end of it all, it was Michael Haritos who claimed the win, just beating both Kye Barber and Elaine Pierik.
