Port Lincoln Golf Report
With the conditions chopping and changing with every passing day, scores were muddled across the board as golfers did battle day in and day out in Stableford format, with Sportspower Port Lincoln sponsoring events. Thursday saw twenty three women take to the course with Kaye Jaensch outlasting her fellow players. Her score of 38 was enough to hold back the might of Elaine Thring with 36 points, Libby Dolphin with 35 and Val Sharrad with 34.
Saturday’s hot conditions meant that players were only able to tee off before 9am. That didn’t stop forty men taking to the course to test their skill in sweltering conditions. A grade saw Codey Marchesi shoot to handicap, his round of 36 just edging past Josh Hausler who was one shot behind. Phil Hyde took out B grade with a score of 37 with Peter Kenny close behind on 36. Score of the day belonged to Bob Sorensen in C Grade, snagging a very tidy 38 points. Scott Clark was close behind with his well-deserved 36.
Seventy-four men took part in the Wednesday competition with Tom Charlton claiming honours in A grade with his round of 39. Huey Rosalia and Michael Hegarty were nipping at his heels with scores of 37. A countback was required in order to determine the winner in B grade as three men scored 36 points. It was Tony Dragun who stood tall though, just sneaking past Garry Downey and Kym Hosking. Peter Watherston swept away the competition in C grade with an astounding 44 points. Boris Kovacic was his closest rival with 39 points.
Sunday’s Mixed competition required another countback to find a winner, this time with Craig Reincke standing at the pinnacle with Mitchell Garrett just missing out, both men having scored 38.
