Port Lincoln Golf Report
Sometimes, a golfer hits a score which simply breaks the mind. During the Saturday’s Stableford Competition, with the week being sponsored by Spot On Fishing, one could only have imagined how Bill Healey felt, coming in with an astounding 42 points in C Grade. Such a score is usually reserved for the victor, after all, it means Bill hit six shots better than his handicap. One can only imagine how he felt looking up at the scoreboard to see one name above his and not simply by a shot or two, but by eight whole strokes. Gary Curtis had a swagger in his step as he stepped into the clubhouse with 50 points to his name. Needless to say, this is one for this history books.
Elsewhere, Adam Sullivan took honours in A grade with 41 points, Luke Gardner just getting the better of Daniel Brown for second with both men two shots behind. Juri Berzins secured B grade with his score of 39 with Steven Bilson and Tony Dragun close behind with 39.
In the women’s Stableford competition, twelve golfers took to the field with Leslee Findlay standing tall with a wonderful 40 points. Adie Fraser was close behind with 38 while Heather Darley and Val Sharrad were a further three shots away.
Sixteen women took to the field on Thursday and Leslee Findlay showed that she was indeed the woman to beat this week with 44 points to her name. Lyn Hosking was her nearest rival with 39 while Liz Trigg bested her handicap with a score of 37.
Wednesday Stableford saw Michael Hegarty clinch A grade, his score of 38 just besting Trevor Durdin via countback. 39 points was enough for Dylan Puckridge to be victorious in B Grade, he was two shots clear of Graeme Charlton. Boris Kovavic had the score of the day, 41 points easily enough to take out C grade with Mark Rowett having to settle for second with his score of 38.
Sunday was the day for Scott Lombe, 40 points enough to see him over the line safely with Michael Haritos, John Hackett and Danny Sharp all within two shots of taking top spot.
