Under normal circumstances, the first golf round I would talk about during this article would be Saturday’s event. Instead, however I’m going to be starting this off with Wednesday’s Stableford competition which was brought to us by McDonalds. While solid scores were both scored in A Grade and B Grade, I will like to direct your attention to what was to be found in C Grade. At 89 years of age, Bill Healey shot 87 off the stick to not only beat his age by two shots but also amass an astounding 42 points. A truly remarkable achievement. Behind him, Nathan Miller could only applause as he settled for second with 40 points to his name. Returning to A Grade, Clinton Scharfe put in a good showing before the upcoming Seafood Week putting together 40 points. On his return to A Grade, Warren Rosman was close behind with 39 points. A countback was required in B Grade to find a winner with Darryl Scharfe just edging past Ben Jaensch after both men scored 38 points.
Thursday’s Stroke Competition saw Liz Weatherspoon pull out form from years gone by as she bested her handicap by a whopping 8 shots to put together a Nett Score of 64. She was a whole six shots clear of her nearest rival in Lyn Hosking who was another shot clear of Jennifer McDonald and her Nett score of 71.
Saturday’s Par round was played in less than stellar conditions as rain tormented players throughout the day. There was a tough fight at the top of A Grade as three players ended with a score of -1. At the end of it all it was Mitchell Garrett who wound up victorious ahead of both Michael Clough and Trevor Durdin. Tim Pobke topped B Grade with his score of -1 just one shot clear of Morgan McCarroll. C Grade was claimed by David Krollig and his score of -2. A countback was required for second with Bob Sherry just getting the better of Shaun Carpenter with both men scoring -3.
